It seems like we won’t be hearing much from Miley Cyrus for a few weeks. The singer may have to communicate solely via text, with a notebook and a pen, or on social media, because she recently underwent surgery on her vocal chords and thus has to be silent until they heal.
According to People, Miley visited the hospital for tonsillitis in October and her doctors reportedly noticed “a separate issue” with her vocal cords — one that the singer had unknowingly had for years. “After learning of the issue, [Miley] was told she would need to have surgery before the end of the year, and that the recovery process would include several weeks of silence,” the magazine reported, sharing that sources confirm Miley is doing well and has been released from the hospital.
“Miley’s recovery will be several weeks without being able to speak,” another source confirmed to E! News. “She is texting and writing things for now. She is doing well and looking forward to getting back to making music.”
Miley alluded to the surgery in an Instagram Story post of herself exercising, writing, “Vocal rest not body.” We aren’t sure how long she’ll be required to stay silent, but we’ve got a feeling Miley will be keeping her fans updated via social media, as will her boyfriend Cody Simpson. As noted by People, Cody shared a cute pic of himself and Miley with the caption “Success,” so the surgery must have gone well!
Last month, the couple alluded to Miley’s previous tonsillitis surgery — which is when the Australian musician wrote “Golden Thing,” his song all about Miley. “I wrote her a song this week that she’s pretty much forcing me to put out,” he told People at the time. “She was like, ‘If you don’t put this sh*t out, I’m putting it out on your behalf for you. I’m getting your Spotify login and doing this sh*t myself.’”
Miley is currently at work on her upcoming album, She is Miley Cyrus, so we imagine that she has plenty to keep her busy as she recovers from the procedure. However, if we know Miley, she’ll be back and better than ever before we know it. Sending all the healing vibes!
