Real Housewives of New Jersey star Teresa Giudice can breathe a slight sigh of relief. Her husband, Joe Giudice, was released from ICE after being held there following his release from prison for bankruptcy fraud. Sadly, he is now living in his native town of Italy while he awaits the US court’s decision on his deportation appeal.
The Bravolebrities have had a difficult five years that included jail time for both the husband and wife, financial troubles and lingering questions on whether or not their marriage would survive all they’ve endured. With Joe now in Italy, fans wait to see if Teresa will continue to stand by her man despite her claims that she will not relocate her family overseas.
Joe Giudice deported to Italy after a stint in prison
After three years in prison for charges related to bankruptcy fraud, People Magazine reported that the reality star husband received a court ruling in October 2018 that he would be deported to Italy as a result of his crimes. Joe, despite living in the US since the age of one-years-old, never legally became a US Citizen.
“Based upon the law, I find you deportable and ineligible for any kind of relief. Mr. Giudice, no matter how this turns out, I wish you the best. I decided this case as a matter of law.”
The Guidices were given a 30-day timeframe to file an appeal, which they did. They are currently awaiting the decision while Joe, who was detained in ICE custody, was granted an early release to Italy while they wait.
Teresa Giudice shocks ‘RHONJ’ fans by claiming she won’t relocate to Italy if Joe is deported
Fans watched as Teresa, a devoted wife and mother, publicly stood by Joe throughout their marriage and legal troubles. She maintained her support of her husband and promised that they’d survive their “nightmare” and come out stronger as a family.
Season after season, Teresa remained positive about the outcome of their legal battles. She rarely showed any signs of anger towards Joe for his part in the crimes and stood firm in her role as his wife. During one reunion episode, she told host, Andy Cohen, that although she did not foresee deportation in their future, she would move with her husband to Italy as she considered it a “beautiful country.”
Teresa shockingly changed her tune during part two of the season 9 reunion. When asked if her decision remained the same that she’d migrate her and her daughters to Italy, her answer was different than ever before. “I hope that’s not a decision I have to make,” she said. “But to pick up my children and just move to another country, I don’t think that would be good for my children, so I mean, so, no, I probably wouldn’t.”
Will Teresa stay with Joe while he fights back against deportation ruling from Italy
TMZ reported on October 11, 2012, that Joe was released from ICE and headed to Italy per his request for early release. The site also reported that Joe got to speak with his wife before boarding, telling reporters:
“Teresa is very happy and got very emotional after speaking to Joe today. He called both her and Gia from the plane. It’s bittersweet, everyone is happy he is out but no one is happy he is going to Italy. He belongs with his wife and four daughters.”
Teresa hasn’t released any statements about Joe leaving nor about the status of their marriage. She did, however, post a heartbreaking image of the Statue of Liberty with tears to her Instagram account just moments after news broke that Joe was headed to Italy.
The couple’s eldest daughter, Gia, shared a screenshot of her and her father FaceTiming after his release to her Instagram story – both were smiling in the image.
Hopefully, the family will remain united.
